Responsibilities

Lead Level Designer

  • Assigned as the Lead Level Designer for Upheaveal, I worked with 2 programmers, 2 artists, and 4 level designers to create and mentor the level design direction for each level in Upheaveal.
  • In charge of blocking out the Lumberyard level for Upheaveal.
  • Designed and started the Game Design Document (GDD)
  • Mentored the Freshman Level Designers for the project and offered critical feedback and industry-level design advice.
  • Prototyped & scripted the saw-blade mechanic for the lumberyard level.
From Blockout To The Final

I was in charge of creating the main featured level for the game The Lumberyard. I then communicated with the Environment & 3D Artists to develop and properly create the prop & environment assets for the level. I made sure to keep track of scale, as the camera system for the game is really sensitive to extreme large spaces, and it turned out to be a perfect level for the camera system for the players!

The Killer Saw-blade Level Mechanic

One of our main level design pillars was to include a mechanic that is apart of the environment. One of the things I wanted to prototype and implement was the Saw-blade mechanic in the lumberyard. I wanted to make something players can use and avoid so they couldn’t die. Most of our players used it as a moving shield to block objects being thrown at them, and some met their demise by accidently jumping into the blade.

Level Design Collaboration

These were all the levels and blockouts that I tasked all the other designers with to make. I gave them incredible feedback and taught them a lot about the in-editor tools for Unity as well as letting them create their own work and implement their own ideas as well as sharing some of mine. Here is the Diner, Saloon, and the Barrett Center.
