RESPONSIBILITIES
- An entry to a level design competition, I worked with my mom, dad, and sister to create a high-quality VR Puzzle experience in Half-Life: Alyx.
- Sketched & converted the measurements to the design of the apartment based on real-life apartment measurements.
- Communicated and led playtest for my level to receive critical feedback
- Designed every single puzzle and visual script in the Apartment.
- Implemented the props and art assets that were within Half-Life Alyx.
- Submitted for the Vault Maps Level Design Competition.
- Created custom textures & materials in Adobe Photoshop and imported them in the game.

The Blockout To Final
I wanted to get the player scale as realistic as possible in a VR setting. I made multiple versions and changes to make sure that the player is aware of their environment and the size so it doesn’t cause any motion sickness as well as confusion. I did multiple updates from the blocking-out phase to the final version. I also added a lot more detail and as well as more space in spots like the kitchen to avoid player claustrophobia. I included some objects as well to help support my design for scale, as items were all interactable and were able to be picked up by the player.
The All New Source 2 Hammer Level Editor
This was so exciting, as Half-Life Alyx was the first Valve game to release their modding toolkits which included the Hammer level editor. Here I did a ton of scripting and visuals. There were so many things that improved in Hammer 2 from Hammer 1 and using it to make this escape room full of puzzles was an exceptional experience.
Custom Materials & Textures
I created some awesome art-assets that were implemented as writing on the walls or pictures for some of the puzzles. Here you can see there’s a washing machine with a headcrab in it, a ball being tossed, and a hint about lost change. These we’re all put inside the level for the gameplay for Apartment Complexity and made the players think about the next step for the escape room.
